Our goal

Ahead of the hectic holiday season, our client Rakuten challenged us with breaking through the noise to drive brand awareness — while showing consumers that their platform is the most rewarding way (literally) to shop their favorite brands.

The Strategy

We created Rakuten’s first-ever in-person shopping experience, building custom boutique booths for top retail partners including UGG, Naadam, and Quay. During the immersive four-day pop-up in New York City, holiday shoppers earned cash back for their purchases on the spot, mirroring the Rakuten online experience. Before the activation opened to the public, we planned a VIP media preview with celebrities including Kate Hudson, Patrick Ta, Jonathan Van Ness, and Sara and Erin Foster who hosted booths on behalf of their own brands.

The Result

The immersive IRL experience educated media and consumers how easy it is to save money with Rakuten — and resulted in lasting brand awareness and impressions. During our pop-up, Rakuten monopolized the media landscape compared to competitors and the event was featured in Women’s Health, People, WWD, Today.com, Variety and PureWow, among others.
